REClinic | My ‘facial aesthetics’ treatment journey

My ‘facial aesthetics’ treatment journey

Facial aesthetics and cosmetic treatments have for too long been a taboo subject. I’m a great fan of the beautification treatments I’ve had a few done myself over the years. Not only do I feel more confident and feel happy about my appearance, I can honestly advise and support my patients on their journeys too.

Guess what? I’ve had multiple medical aesthetics treatments and I’m very happy to talk about it and share my experience.

Often people are surprised how open and honest I am about the treatments I have had done over the years. I’m very happy to share my journey and treatments I’ve had and how they have helped me subtly change my face shape and improve my skin’s condition. I really believe these treatments can make everybody feel fabulous and think that is something to be celebrated!

I also think the best way for me to be able to help my patients is to really understand how treatments work and so I ‘test’ most of them on myself first, learning everything there is to know about them so I can answer all questions about each procedure and not just what I’ve learnt in training.

I even had my wisdom teeth removed when I was a dental student to know what it felt like – a bit extreme but even dentists deserve some pain every now and then!

I was 27 when I had my first botox treatment. I’d inherited my dad’s frown lines and wanted to make sure they wouldn’t get any deeper. I still have it done, not just for my lines but also for managing headaches and teeth grinding.

While botox treatment is becoming more and more accepted and less people are worried about getting unnatural looks (which can be achieved very easily as long as you see an experienced medical aesthetic practitioner), dermal fillers are still a taboo for many. There are so many bad examples of filler work around us and it is a real shame that patients who would benefit from these treatments are put off by the ‘over-filled’ ‘Love Island’ looks.

I also think it is a sad fact that we aren’t more open about having facial aesthetic and cosmetic treatments. The chances are you know someone who has had work done but they just don’t like to admit it. Someone you think has just ‘aged well’ and ‘looked after their skin’ could actually be down to treatments they have been having. The same goes for celebrities who insist they just work out and eat well when in all likelihood they are probably having their features enhanced by a facial aesthetic clinician.

My patients all have their individual goals, from fighting ageing, looking less tired, improving their skin or simply to enhance features they feel they are missing – fuller lips, more pronounced cheekbones, stronger chin.

My personal motivation is to slow down the ageing process and keep my skin in tip top condition. Whilst none of the procedures I undergo are particularly necessary, I am sure you will all agree looking at my before and after images, that I look better, fresher, healthier and my face gained more attractive proportions. I certainly feel that way and that’s what really counts.

You may have heard the term ‘beautification’ in relation to facial aesthetics and cosmetic treatments. It’s a concept coined by some of the most prestigious aesthetic doctors following years of scientific research. The objective is to analyse and find the key points on each face to enhance natural and authentic beauty. It can be done at any age and it is a very personalised approach.

This is the approach I take with my patients and my own treatments. I look at their faces, the proportions and put in place a treatment plan that enhances their features helping them to be the best version of themselves.

So, what exactly have I had done? Well, here’s the list along with the before and afters so you can judge the effectiveness for yourselves.

1. Botox frown, forehead, crow’s feet and eyebrow lift

2. The Perfect Peel

3. Profhilo treatment

4. Temple filler

5. Subtle lip filler

6. Cheek and Chin filler

I think the biggest change that has been made for me is from having my chin filler treatment as my chin was naturally quite weak and set back. Having some careful shaping work done has helped to elongate my face and improve proportions.

I often get comments about how well I look but nobody ever asks if I’ve filler treatments, although I always tell them! I guess that’s the perfect outcome we all want!
