Do you have Gummy smile? Let us talk about anti wrinkle injections for a gummy smile

A gummy smile can be seen in as much as 10% of the population, and is more prevalent in females than males. In a perfect smile, the lip should sit just above the top of the teeth, but some people have problems with a disproportionate gum tissue to teeth ratio, leaving them self-conscious about their smile.

We can give you a balanced beautiful smile with the help of injecting small amounts of a muscle relaxing treatment to reduce upper lip elevation. This treatment is often a great way to test the look of a reduced gum area, before deciding to opt for a permanent procedure at the dentist or an orthodontic treatment or surgical treatment.

Treatment options for gummy smile

1. Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentists will often offer surgical gummy smile correction to treat this concern. This involves cutting away some of the gum from the teeth to increase the gum to tooth ratio and reduce the appearance of a gummy smile.

2. Jaw surgery

The upper jaw can sometimes be genetically predisposed to grow in a way that protrudes, creating the effect of a gummy smile. Surgical correction of gummy smile helps to correct both the function and appearance. There is a significant amount of downtime after the surgery and it often requires additional orthodontic treatment.

3. Botox treatment

One way to address this concern is using muscle-relaxing injections to reduce this excessive appearance. Muscle relaxing injections are a hugely popular non-surgical treatment used all around the world. At REclinic we use botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum , which has been used within the cosmetic industry for over 20 years. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles in the treated area to stop them contracting and animating for approximately three to four months.

How does the gummy smile Botox work?

During treatment, your assigned clinician will introduce a small amount of Botox into your upper lip, most usually through the junction of the nostril and the nasolabial fold. Results are generally visible after 3 to 5 days, and will last for 3 to 4 months before a supplementary treatment is needed. We advise that this is an ongoing treatment.
